I was a patient at this pain clinic for around 8 years. I had pain from a hip fracture of my left leg and due to need of a knee replacement on my right knee. But I couldn't have that done until my left hip issues resolved. As one therapist put it " You haven't got a leg to stand on!" So true. But you know, in the entire 8 years I went to this pain clinic, I never once met the doctor whose signature was on the auto-printed refill scripts, already printed off before my appointment even began. For a time, the psychiatrist I was seeing prescribed the drug Saphris for me for my depression. That drug had the most insidious side effects. So insidious, I couldn't tell for sure whether the problems I experienced beginning months after first starting Saphris were from that drug or something else. I told the psychiatrist this, and he doubled the amount of Saphris I was taking. Within a year i was experiencing periods of sleeplessness that could last 3-4 nights in a row. I was tired but too restless to sleep. I repeatedly lost my car keys, the glass of tea I had set down somewhere, and worst of all - my purse and/or cellphone. This was particularly anxiety producing when it occurred when I was out shopping. I knew that the medications I took had to be kept in their original bottles. So, if I lost my purse shopping, I made a police report and then had to call my doctors to explain what happened. When I called my doctors to tell them of my predicament, I got refills (I had to pay for in full out of pocket) and I believe in the final year and a half I took this Saphris drug, I lost my purse six times! The pain clinic recorded every call I made to explain what had happened again. Also in that final year and a half of taking Saphris, although I felt fully capable of driving I still had six inexplicable car accidents. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. But my car had to be loaded up and hauled away and twice my purse got left in my towed away car. On these occasions, I had to call and explain what happened to my doctors and the pain clinic. The pain clinic refused to give me a refill. But one of those times I found out where my car was hauled off to, and the next day was able to go and rummage through my car, find where my purse had landed in the accident, and thank God, nothing had been taken from it. I called all my doctors and the plain clinic back to cancel my refill requests, even calling the pain clinic to let them know I had recovered my pain med script. About 8 years into my medication treatment at the pain clinic, I was asked when I'd had my last pain pill. I told them honestly at that morning appointment I'd taken a last pain pill late the previous evening. For the first time in my life I was asked to provide a urine sample. I had no qualms about doing that because I had no reason to worry -- or so I thought. But the nurse came back in and told me my urine sample results were negative. 1st drug test I'd ever had. NEGATIVE!!?? Why? How? Can we repeat the test right now? No? I wa being immediately dismissed, and was told no, I couldn't talk to the doctor. Well, since I never had & had no idea what he looked like... I never once saw a real MD or DO there. The way they acted was mute testimony to the fact they had no interest trying to find out why the 1 & only test I'd ever had was negative. Asked to at least speak with the doctor. I was scared. I'd heard you never just stop a drug you've taken a long time. I was forbidden doing that too! 3 days later, form letter came. Said I was dismissed for not following contract. Huh? 2nd form letter came next day. This one said I'd failed the drug test -was dismissed. Failed it? W/o further study, that's pretty dubious thing to claim. Had gone on Medicare that yr. MDs aren't reimbursed as much by Medicare. Likely THAT is real reason they wanted me gone! Later called back and asked nurse what difference was between drug dependence and drug addiction. She couldn't answer that. Long term pain med therapy often produces dependence NOT addiction!

I've been seeing Dr. Roberts office for a year. They treat AfricanAmericans like drug addicts. I take the lowest dose pain killer for severe back pain and I went to get my rx filled they said I had to make an appointment, I was not do for another appointment until September. I've seen the Dr one time in the last year. Finding a new dr who actually cares about patients.
